The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Rijeka has announced the organisation of MEDRI 2025 – the Second International Conference on Teaching and Learning in Medical Education. Following a series of successful initiatives aimed at enhancing medical education in higher education, this year’s conference will be held under the theme FUTUREMED: A Transformative Era of Higher Education.

MEDRI 2025 holds special significance as it marks the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Rijeka and serves as a celebratory prelude to a week of commemorative events. Building on the outstanding success of the inaugural conference in 2023, which attracted over 400 in-person and 1300 online participants, the aim is to establish a biennial tradition that fosters dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in medical education.

The conference will take place from 27 to 29 November 2025 at Hotel Ambasador in Opatija. Like its predecessor, MEDRI 2025 will bring together key stakeholders in medical education from across Croatia. This year, the programme will be further enriched by participants from neighbouring countries and the United States, enhancing regional and international knowledge exchange and best practices sharing.

The event is being organised in collaboration with esteemed institutions, including the Croatian Medical Chamber, the Croatian Medical Association, the Faculties of Medicine in Maribor and Mostar, the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka, and the University of Rijeka. It also involves over 20 higher education institutions, including all four Croatian medical faculties—among them, the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Croatia. Associate Professor Dr. Vjekoslav Peitl, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Cooperation with Teaching Bases at our Faculty of Medicine, is contributing to the organisation as a member of the conference's Scientific Committee.

MEDRI 2025 is open to educators, students, healthcare professionals, academic leaders, and administrative staff involved in medical and healthcare education. The programme will address current trends and challenges in medical education, focusing on undergraduate and graduate programmes, teacher education through lifelong learning, and especially on the continuous digital transformation reshaping the landscape of higher education. The conference will feature short talks, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and poster presentations showcasing best practices from institutions in Croatia and abroad.

In addition, we are proud to announce a selection of transformative plenary lectures and an innovative talk-show format titled Inspirational Sessions, designed to highlight the professional journeys of educators and students whose personal stories are meant to inspire others.
